Blue Mountains GP Dr Teresa Towpik has spoken out to encourage others to review the research supporting the therapeutic use of cannabis taking into account “observational evidence” from patients and carers.
Dr Towpik was unsuccessful in her attempts to prescribe a medicinal cannabis product for a patient with chronic pain and cautioned that patients trying to access medicinal cannabis may resort to the black and miss out on proper medical management.
State-based rules make it increasingly difficult to access medicinal cannabis with GPs including RACGP President Dr Bastian Seidel calling for a unified system of access.
